Behind the Scenes at HIT FM – My Experience at Best Host Camp

By Hazel Lin

In December 2020, I participated in the Best Host Camp with a visit to HIT FM and PBS, gaining hands-on experience in hosting and learning from professionals.

The Art of Hosting

The camp had two main stages:

  1. Host-Related Lectures: Expert-led sessions on public speaking, script preparation, and voice modulation introduced me to essential hosting techniques.

  2. Radio Show Recording: I recorded a segment for "YOUTH OF UNI CLIP" at HIT FM, where I experienced the professional broadcasting process and learned how radio hosts connect with their audience.

Highlights at HIT FM

The HIT FM visit was a highlight, allowing me to observe hosts in action. Watching their creative process showed me how they balance professionalism with an approachable style, tailoring their approach to different audiences and formats.

Key Takeaways

  • Adaptability: Each platform—radio, TV, live events—requires a unique hosting style.

  • Connection: Great hosts build a genuine connection with their audience, whether on-air or live.

The Best Host Camp was transformative, and I’m excited to apply these skills in future public speaking opportunities.
